I received this book a few days ago because of the good reviews that it has for beginner flute players. I was teaching myself the flute but had laid off it for awhile and need to get back to it. I really want to be able to play this instrument! My first day using this book was just what I needed, to start from scratch. The beginning of the book discusses the basics in depth and goes into how to properly hold the flute and where to put your fingers. This is no joke! It may sound easy but this is vitally important. The only downside that I have experienced thus far is that the diagrams in the book which reflects how to hold the instrument has a lot to be desired for a beginner. I "googled" a better, clearer diagram. I do like this book and the forthright way that the author discusses learning to play. I'm excited to take this journey.

Gave this book to our 13 year old daughter for Christmas along with an inexpensive flute. She had never touched a flute in her life until Christmas morning.By Christmas night, she was playing simple songs and now, 2 months later, she plays as well as the kids in the band/orchestra who have been playing for 2 years! Her band director is astounded. Disclaimer: she did know how to read music and does play the clarinet - but this book 100% helped take her from "never touched a flute" to "I play the flute" in just a few weeks.Gives very basic beginners information about how to hold the flute, how to position your mouth, etc along with reading music basics and then has several beginning to intermediate pieces in it. If you have a very motivated child and want to see how interested they are in the flute before shelling out the 💵 money 💵 for flute rental and lessons, or if you homeschool and want a good beginning flute lesson book, I think you'll be pleased with this.

After 6 months, I'm up to page 82 of the book, and in my daily practice, I usually go back and play all the melodies starting with "Ilkerton Ridge". I like Harrison's book a lot -- it's working very well for me. (But the diagrams and illustrations are pretty crude.) I've also used "Essential Elements for Band", and it's interesting that the first practice pieces in Harrison's book use notes from the lowest octave, which are easiest to play, and the later practice pieces introduce higher notes, one by one. But the "Essentials" book starts with notes in the second octave then introduces lower notes later. I guess that's because the flute played in a band typically plays higher notes, so it can be heard above the other instruments. Since I don't play in a band, I like Harrison's approach better.Also, the pieces in Harrison's book are melodically more interesting than the little ditties in the "Essentials" book. However, as compared with some other introductory books on the flute I've looked at, for both Harrison and "Essentials", explanations are at a minimum, and the music is the thing. Harrison starts early with phrasing and articulation.

How many flute books can one buy? ... well, I despite a whole stack I bought this one too and am glad I did. I will say it is more suited for the amateur adult beginner who wants to "get on with it quickly" to enjoy playing - recreationally. I've found some really useful tips on embouchure control and tone production (air speeds and angles). Not quite your rigorous Trevor Wye classic (very highly recommended), but nevertheless fantastic angle from which to intro the flute for those into self-experimentation or without a musical background.Rather than the run of the mill presentation that one can come to expect in most beginner books, this one approachesinstruction different yet refreshingly so - one is eased into the basic rudiments along the way. One would find oneselfprogressing without being bogged down or too concerned with rigid pedantics which maybe necessary for those seeking a moreformal music education.Great illustrations, preemptive descriptions on what to look out for when starting out what to expect and avoid andhow to improve. Love this book. Recommend depending on your needs.

This is a great book for learning to play the flute. It has complete and detailed instructions for the beginner and really helped me get started. Within a week of getting my book and following the instructions, I was playing a scale! My tone still needs work but thanks to the instructions in this book I know what to do to improve it. I bought several other books at the same time as this one and none of them including the Band Essentials book that is used in most school bands, was even close to the instructional quality in this one. This is the only book I use now. The illustrations are clear, easy to understand and it teaches you the simple fingering first before progressing to the more complex. It adds one finger at a time which was really good for me and made learning the fingering easier than the Band Essentials which starts with the key of Bb with two flats. It also demistified reading the fingering charts and clearly explaines how to play in different octaves. It even has breathing exercises to help you develop your breath control. I already knew how to read music but if I had not known, the instructions for that were in there also. This book is the next best thing to having your own private instructor at your beck and call. A Very comprehensive learning tool for the beginner.

If you type in the programs in this book and run them as you go along, you’ll learn even more. Writing programs is much more difficult than reading them, and the first step is just letting your fingers get used to typing in the programs and getting rid of the small syntax errors that inevitably occur. As you get deeper into the book, you’ll be writing programs that are pretty tricky to write in most other languages-- but hopefully you won’t realize this. Soon you’ll be writing distributed programs. This is when the fun starts...

I bought this workbook a bit too soon for my granddaughter but we did some of the pages. I thought it had a lot of different ideas and hopefully we can do more in the near future. I will probably look into purchasing a grade one math workbook soon too.

Great workbook. My son enjoys his reading work book.

My son is 6 and he is starting to read on his own. We have been enjoying working with this book, it’s a great way to review or learn more about short and long vowels (with a consonants combinations lesson in between), vocabulary and reading comprehension.I’ll recommend extra practice (either in a paper sheet or white board) per each lesson to reinforce what your kids have learned.

Am using these workbooks with my Kindergarten twins.They're able to read the directions any comprehend 90% of them but some are not clear and would benefit from simplification. Bottom line, I'd buy it again and find it worthwhile. would benefit from simplification. The material isn't very challenging but helps keep their skills sharp. I can't be happier with ALL KUMON 1st grade books. I work with my 6.5 year old son as a supplement to his school work. He actually enjoys his homework. Each lesson gently prepares him for the next milestone. I like the way the books are structured.

The basic layout is the student reads a passage and answers question for comprehension. The main focus is sequencing and vocabulary. It's ideal for honing those first grade reading skills.

Most of my students read above grade-level. The Kumon workbooks help improve comprehension & vocabulary.

My daughter has progressed very well using this as part of her home-school curriculum. We are very glad that Kumon has these workbooks available for us to use. They are a great resource for us. We also use Kumon Word Problems and Geometry & Measurement for math and recommend it as well.

I bought this book for my 6 year old daughter who is in the first grade. She works very independently using this book. The instrustions are kids friendly, so they don't need to much help from us parents. This book reinforces some of the stuff your child already knows and builds on them , while pushing your child forward in the right direction. My daughter has learn so much from using this book. I just love love this book because it does what it supposed to do which is help my child read.This book consists of these exercises: Short vowels, long vowels ,Consonant Combinations, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension. Your child will be matching pictures to the correct words, completing rhyming phrases, connecting words to the correct picture, writing words with the same ending and circling words that matches the picture. The reading consist of several short passages, which your child will read and then answer several questions about what they just read. Overall this is a great book for kids to work on their own and then use the answer sheet to the back of the book to correct their own mistakes. I highly recommend this book to home schoolers or to reinforced what child is learning in school.

Worth every penny as a follow up to Tony Evans book Kingdom Man. This will help you implement and unpack the role of a Kingdom Man. Don't just read the devotional. Take time to answer the questions honestly. Rewarding without the Kingdom Man book. The cover is beautiful and durable. I took this with me every day to work for 90 days and pulled it out of my bag periodically to meditate on the words I read first thing in the morning. I got more value than I actually paid for.

This is a pretty good devotional. I'd rate it higher if each day's devotion had a specific scripture tied to it. Many of the days do not even mention a scripture passage. I would categorize this devotional more for men early on in marriages more so than men who have been married awhile. I did like how the author brought stories from sports into the devotional which were interesting and compelling.

The are many men who have been raised in single parent homes by loving mothers but absentee fathers. Others have been raised in homes where the father was present but was both verbally and physically abusive. In both cases there is a great deal of insecurity as these young men were lost in regard for what it means to be a man. The author of the book, Tony Eveans, shares his testimony about his father who at one time was an alcoholic but came to know Jesus as his savior and Lord. As a result the Bible revealed to him what a godly man looks like and became a model example for his son, Tony, to follow after. His book gives a good Biblical blueprint for becoming the man that God created us to be. I highly recommend that all men read it and follow the instructions in blueprint. It will bless you in ways that you didn't think possible.

I recommend the book to all men young or old. If men take to heart what’s laid out in this book and pass it on to future generations, we may be able too turn the tide in our family’s and then the church and then our communities and then the nation. Men get started and take you rule seriously. Thank you Dr Evans for writing this Devotional. I have shared it with other men and my family on some parts men and women. I have been married for 38 years to my precious bride and we have thirteen children and nine grandchildren. I am still a work in progress, but I am enjoying the Journey.

Bought this for my son. Tony Evans is awesome! My son is enjoying it. There are questions at the end of each day so it engages him in the devotion and in thought. I like that.

Great, God Inspired

I so enjoy reading books by Tony Evans. We are using his Kingdom Man studies at our Church. He is very knowledgeable and makes the studies very interesting. I would recommend his books to everyone.

Great addition to the "Kingdom Man" book from Evan's. You can, however, read this without reading the "Kingdom Man" book prior, although it does help to give some background on his stories and life experiences.
